What's inside?

In deriving automatic numerical optimization algorithms for aerodynamic applications, the design parameters are usually chosen to be the unknown arfoil/blade profiles. However, there are certain advantages in suing the pressure/velocity distribution as the design variable in some applications; the designed distribution can then be used in a 3D Inverse Design method to generate the actual profile shape.

Here, this approach will be addressed.

Two methods are used to parametrize the circulation distribution for compressor blades. Dawe's code is used to predict the viscous effect. An automatic optimization algorithm is developed to minimize the loss with respect to the design parameters.

A 3D Automatic Optimization Strategy for Design of Centrifugal Compressor Impeller Blades Cover

In this publication, you will:

  1. Understand the methodology to develop an automatic optimization algorithm to minimize the loss for the design of a high specific speed industrial centrifugal compressor.
  2. Discover the usefulness of the algorithm in this case by the reduction in separation in the three-dimensional flow field.
  3. See the advantage of using a three-dimensional based approach in this project, it can be used to rapidly and automatically explore a large part of the design space to create a design that meet contrasting requirements relating to efficiency, losses, manufacturing limitations, mechanical constraints or cost.
