A novel approach for designing diffuser pumps is presented based on a three-dimensional inverse design method and the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) technique.
Both impeller and diffuser blade shapes were computed for specified circulation or blade loading distributions, which can be optimized for a specific design requirement.
The two examples clearly show that the new design approach based on the 3D inverse design method and the CFD enables high
efficiency, high suction performance, and much more compact design of diffuser pump stages. The validity of this new design methodology has already been confirmed for a wide range of diffuser pump specific speeds.
