What's inside?

A new design system for the hydraulic and aerodynamic design of turbomachines has been established by adopting a three-dimensional inverse design method and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).

The system enables the optimized design of turbomachines in quite short period by specifying the optimum blade loading distribution of impellers and diffusers. This system was applied to the development of mixed-flow pumps over a wide range of specific speeds.

Pump Design System Cover

Two different types of mixed-flow pump series, one with extremely cmpact machine size and the other with high perfomrnace, were developed by this design system and validated experimentally.

With this design system, the optimum design of a diffuser pump can be achieved within a very short period of time by specifying the optimum blade loading distribution and optimum meridional shapes for impellers and diffusers.

In this publication, you will:

  1. Discover a novel design system and new optimization procedure for mixed-flow pump designs;
  2. Understand how this approach enables turbomachinery designers to develop diffuser pumps within a very short period of time;
  3. See the advantage of using the 3D inverse design method and the optimum blade loading for designing high performing pumps.
