TURBOdesign Suite 2023R1

Video is now available on demand.

In this webinar, we will review the major new features and enhancements in the 2023R1 release. We continue the enhancements in the integration of TURBOdesign Optima inside TURBOdesign1 and improvements in functionalities that aid designers in automating the turbomachinery design process.  TURBOdesign Pre (meanline design code) can now export the meridional geometry in a parametric form which, when brought into TURBOdesign1, can be used immediately for optimization of meridional geometry as well as the 3D blade geometry. Optimization in TURBOdesign1 also supports all control point parameters for blade loading, spanwise work, thickness or stacking.  Automatic system to set up the correct range of design parameters for optimization by using machine learning algorithms is further extended to include splitter parameters. Further enhancements include automatic solver changes in response to convergence stability.

TURBOdesign Volute has significant enhancements, including support for double volutes for pump. The functionality allows for control of volute splitter thickness and exports the watertight double volute geometry with fillets. Other important enhancements are support for double entry volutes for turbines or compressors for applications such as F1, where space constraints are a major problem. Another important feature is support for axial volutes, which are commonly used in space applications or in mixed-flow compressors for industrial or chiller applications. All the new functionalities in TURBOdesign Volute support scripting and automation and can be integrated directly inside Ansys Workbench or Siemens CCM+.

TURBOdesign Pre for centrifugal pump now supports inducers, which are very important for Hydrogen pumps or any other rocket pump applications. Also, all modules of TURBOdesign Pre will now have Cordier diagrams, which should help with the design of unusual applications.

The webinar will demonstrate some of these new functionalities with the example of the design of a liquid hydrogen transport pump.
